The rules
Last updated 25 October 2026
Tot Up is a free daily numbers game, made and run by one person in the UK. These are the rules for using it. They’re short because the game is simple. If anything isn’t clear, email hello@tot-up.com.
1. Playing
Tot Up is free. There’s nothing to sign up for and nothing to buy. By playing you agree to these rules and to the privacy page, which explains what the game keeps about you.
2. Age
Tot Up is made for adults and is meant for people aged 13 and over. If you’re under 13, please play with a parent and don’t turn on location or reminders.
3. One go a day, fair and square
Everyone gets the same numbers, so the game only works if everyone plays it straight. Don’t use calculators, solvers, scripts or a second player ID to get a better score; don’t tamper with the clock, the moves you send or anyone else’s player ID; and don’t try to see tomorrow’s numbers. The server times every round and checks every move, and I can remove scores, names, leagues or players that break this rule, without warning.
4. Your name
The name you choose is shown to anyone who looks at the tables or your leagues, so use a first name or a nickname, not your full name. Don’t use a name that’s rude, hateful, pretends to be someone else, advertises something or includes contact details. I can change or remove a name that does, and I’ll generally do that without telling you first.
5. Leagues
Anyone with a league’s link or code can join it and see its members’ names and scores. If you start a league, you’re responsible for who you share the link with. Leagues can’t be deleted yet, but you can leave any league in Settings.
6. Reminders and bonus points
Turning reminders on is optional. The one-off 30 points for turning them on is a thank-you, counted once and shown as a bonus on your results. You can turn reminders off at any time in Settings and keep the points.
7. Tips
A tip through Ko-fi is a gift. It buys nothing, unlocks nothing and can’t be refunded by me. Ko-fi’s own terms apply.
8. Adverts
Tot Up may show adverts from Google to help pay for the hosting. In the UK and Europe you’ll be asked first, and saying no doesn’t stop you playing.
9. No promises
Tot Up is provided as it is, free, by one person. I do my best to keep it running and fair, but I can’t promise it’ll always be available, that every puzzle will be perfect, or that your streak, scores or leagues will never be lost. Nothing in these rules limits any liability that the law doesn’t let me limit, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
10. What’s mine and what’s yours
The game, its code, its words, pictures and sounds are mine or used under licence. Your name and your scores are yours; by posting them you let me show them on the tables and in share previews for as long as they’re there. Tot Up isn’t connected with any television programme, broadcaster or exam board.
11. Stopping
You can stop at any time by clearing Tot Up from your phone, or by tapping Delete my data in Settings. I can stop running Tot Up, or change how it works, at any time.
12. Changes and law
I’ll update this page before the rules change in any way that matters, and the date at the top shows when. These rules are governed by the law of Scotland, and the Scottish courts can deal with any dispute, though if you live elsewhere in the UK you can use your local courts too.
